Sensing the Gospel

For the Lenten season, I decided to do a series on how we experience Lent. For so many people, it is a time of deep reflection and deprivation intended to open the spirit and redirect the mind toward Jesus' message, ministry, trial and ultimate sacrifice on the cross. It anticipates Jesus' resurrection and turns a season into a journey of faith.
But how do we go about walking that particular path? Do we isolate ourselves in prayer? That isn't such a bad idea seeing that prayer is an often neglected part of our spiritual lives. Do we indulge in self punishment? This one I'm not so eager to participate in or advise others to use. Life's tragic events are sufficient, I think, without creating them.
Instead of these, however, I wanted to concentrate on how we experience the Lenten season through our very human and earthly, mortal existence. That is, can we experience Lent in our bodies and minds? Can we experience it through touch, sight, taste, hearing and even smelling? (Still not sure how I'm going to approach that last one.) I hope you will attend worship with us and take this journey of the senses with us! Perhaps together we can take this 40 day journey with confident steps and discover new ways of experiencing Christ's teachings.
